DESCRIPTION
- Evolution of Accessible Housing from pre-1970 to today
- Overview of key wheelchair design standards, including: doorways, corridors, entrances, turning circles, bedrooms, controls & reach ranges and storage space
- Approaches to auditing a property for its accessibility (initial assessments)
- Suggestions for incorporating design standards into adaptation work
- Be able to discuss the National Wheelchair Standard for England (Part M, Volume 1, Category 3) and understand how to reference this in adaptation work
- Measuring the wheelchair user: in particular assessing for doorway/corridor widths (anthropometric exercises, via videos, using wheelchairs)
- Signposting to further resources
