MODULES:
Reading and Using Plans (a.m.)
Adapting and Designing for Wheelchair Users (p.m.)
This course aims to provide delegates with the essential knowledge and skills needed to interpret architectural drawings (such as plan views, sections and elevations), read to scale, and review housing schemes for their accessibility. On completion of the course, delegates should:
- be able to interpret plans, sections and elevations
- be familiar with key architectural conventions & symbols used on drawings
- be able to read to scale
- understand how to work with drawings received by email (PDFs)
- be aware of where space standards come from – which are compulsory and which good practice
- have awareness of essential standards, such as wheelchair turning spaces
- be better able to measure individuals in relation to key adaptations e.g. assess for doorway widths, turning circles, worktop heights, corridor widths and lift car dimensions
- have experience of assessing a wheelchair scheme for its accessibility
