SHANE ELLIOTT, Consultant Trainer
Shane is a qualified Occupational Therapist with more than 20 years’ experience working in both health and social care sectors and, since 1995, has specialised in the area of housing adaptation and design. He is an experienced trainer and public speaker, delivering courses regularly on accessible housing issues and presenting at conferences and access related public events.
Shane is currently employed as Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist in Housing for the Northern Health and Social Care Trust in NI and is responsible for providing professional support and clinical leadership for occupational therapists involved in the housing adaptation process, particularly in relation to complex cases.
He is advisor to the Trust on the accessibility of new housing schemes and regularly undertakes research and audits on their behalf. For example, he recently completed a project for the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety regarding the delivery of minor adaptations in Northern Ireland and has been very involved in the current Interdepartmental Review of Housing Adaptations.
Shane also collaborates with his colleagues in the Republic of Ireland and regularly contributes to, and chairs, interagency fora on housing adaptation and design. He recently completed a Postgraduate module (MSc) at University of Ulster on the subject of Electronic Assistive Technology.
Shane is a member of the College of Occupational Therapists’ Specialist Section in Housing and is the Northern Ireland representative on the National Executive Committee. He also sits on the Design Standards Panel of Disability Action, Northern Ireland.
